HALEBANK FC TAKE THE GUARDIAN CUP AFTER A 36 YEAR WAIT.

Vulcan FC 1 - 2 Halebank FC

Wonderful news Halebank take the Guardian cup with a 2-1 victory over Vulcan FC. Tony Nolan's charges took the glory from a very close game. We took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from James and Nick Ellis and held on after Vulcan pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute. By no means our best performance of the year but obviously the most rewarding.

This trophy has previously eluded Halebank FC and their last final was 36 years ago saw them lose to St Benedicts. This time Scott Keouski led the Halebank side to victory against a very big and strong Vulcan side.

Congratulations to all concerned and a big thanks to the great support from the locals and the many ex players and supporters, great to see you all there.

10    9 8 more games for the first team

Well as we all knew a massive fixture backlog is here, with 10 fixtures in 3 weeks. It is disappointing that the season will end in such a manner and it will test us to the limit.

We have two major cup games this week, firstly the fantastic Guardian Cup final win 2-1 over Vulcan on Monday 2nd. (see above)

Then the Walton Cup Semi Final tie away to Golborne Sports on Wednesday 4th night, add to these eight seven league matches from which we want to ensure we achieve the highest position possible in the Div 2.  It doesn't come much tougher than this. Our squad of players will be tested to the limit.

It is very similar to the 1980-81 season when we had a run in of 9 games in 3 weeks, though that was due to good cup runs in the campaign and not the weather.

30/04/16 Cheadle town FC 4-4 Halebank FC

This was a very exciting game as Halebank had a win snatched from them in the last couple of minutes. They found themselves 3-1 down at one stage and then rallied to take a 3-4 lead only to be undone by the late equaliser from the home side. Goals for Halebank Marshall two, Matt Ellis and Whalley.

A good performance from our Reserves, with a superb hat trick from Jack Nolan giving the Bank a late winner.

Elliott Cunningham saves his third spot kick in the Guardian Cup Semi Final penalty shoot out.

Halebank 2 - 2 Irlam Steel    Halebank through on penalties 3 - 2.

What celebrations at the Playing Field after a massive tussel with a strong Irlam side. It all came down to three, yes three terrific Penalty shootout saves from Elliott Cunningham in the Halebank goal, to take us into the Guardian Cup final on Bank Holiday Monday at Warrington Town's Cantilever Stadium. Two Marshall goals had been enough to bring the tie to penalties and that was Cunningham's moment to shine. 1980 was our last appearance in this super final.
