Halebank host the Gray Lambs
This week we have the old adversary's Lostock Gralam at the Playing Field ground. The "Gray
Lambs" as they are known played in the old Central Cheshire league against us 30 years ago and were always considered
as tough opponents. It will be interesting to renew our rivalry with them and will also be a test for us as The Gray Lambs
sit top of the table with 13 points, A big early season game this as top versus third go head to head. Kick Off is 3:00pm
Sat 5th Sept and we hope for a good line of support.
The fixture Halebank Reserves V Haydock Res on Tuesday 1st Sept had
to be postponed, the visitors were unable to field a team. This was not aided by the Haydock 1st team playing away
at St. Michaels on the same night as a Reserve fixture. Many clubs would find it tough to field 2 x teams on away fixtures
on a Tuesday night.
We wait to see the League's decision on this, the options are:- they could
rule the game should be replayed or we have the 3pts awarded to us.
This Saturday our Reserves
head to Carr Mill in their Division 2 match, our opponents sit in 4th place in the Division at this early stage of the season
with 8pts from five matches. A steady start for them and this fixture will test Mark Holleran's boys. Once again a 3:0pm
Halebank 3 - 1 Avon Athletic
Halebank hit three it make it three on the trot.. Our third consecutive Widnes Cup win at
the Select Stadium in the Widnes Cup..
Tony Nolan's charges took the lead in the
2nd quarter with a superb set piece back post header from Marshall. This after a brilliant penalty save by the Avon
keeper had denied Halebank a minute earlier, but it was really against the run of play. Avon were really strong in the first
period and they duly equalised before the break to make it 1-1.
A rousing Tony halftime hairdryer
session ( as Sir Alex's would call it ) saw our boys up their game and take control with Ellis and Whalley adding
to our tally with two cracking goals to take the trophy in front of a decent crowd. That considering lots of players
and officials who may have attended were on duty with Forum member clubs in Warrington League fixtures.
Though not one of our better performances of the new season, we can credit that to a solid Avon side,
it is great to win silverware in this superb competition yet again.
Proud of the boys!! so keep
it up and as our motto says Deeds not Words.
